SALES FIGURES
Sales figures should cover
the sales of each make and model during the preceding calendar month.
If however this leaves insufficient time for the returns to be completed
and sent in to reach Response Group Trendline by the close-off on a
specific date, the data should be supplied as near to the end of the month
as possible to enable this to be done.
A summary of model totals must please accompany the sales data returns
when they are sent in to Response Group Trendline via fax.
NAAMSA's offices will continue to issue to members and subscribers by fax,
details of new passenger car sales and new commercial vehicle sales in
respect of the preceding month.

AREAS
Importantly, sales must
be reported as having been made in the licensing district where the
vehicle is to be registered and NOT where the actual sales takes place, if
the sale is in another area.
Please note that Licensing Districts are demarcated according to Municipal District region.
Franchise holders are asked to impress on their distributors the necessity
for complying strictly with this requirement.
Sales in the various regions must please be recorded against the codes
provided in the ANNEXURE.

STANDARD LAYOUT
Models and their variants
should be shown in the same order each month, except where no sales are
recorded. In the case of cars, sales of variants of a model will be
grouped together, in the car sales return, and sub-totalled.
Commercial vehicles with a permissible vehicle mass in excess of 8 500 kg
will grouped and sub-totalled according to the following basic usages :
(i)Truck Tractors
(ii)Tippers
(iii)Freight Carriers
(iv)Buses
The Commercial Vehicle
Sales figures should be split into retail sales for Light Commercials,
Medium Commercials, Heavy Commercials, Extra Heavy Commercials and Buses
> 8500kg.
The reporting format has
been enhanced to reflect sub-totals for each province by model line and
manufacturer, for each of the vehicle categories, as well as the market
penetration percentages of manufacturers for each of the NAAMSA licensing
areas, retail sales prices, exports, market share totals, government,
single units, and rental and dealer totals.

RECOMMENDED RETAIL
PRICES
In the case of Cars and
Commercial Vehicles the suggested retail prices "inclusive of VAT" will be
shown.
Franchise holders are asked
to ensure that the prices shown are those ruling at the time the new
vehicle sales data is submitted.

| 2.5 |
GOVERNMENT SALES
Sales recorded in this
column should be confined to sales made against an official Government
purchase order, and to vehicles which will bear a Government, Provincial
or other special number.
The code for Government
sales is GOV and all tender sales should be reported as GOV.
Sales of specialised
military vehicles must not be included in NAAMSA's sales returns.
|
| 2.6 |
SINGLE UNIT SALES
This column is intended for
the recording of retail sales registrations resulting from sales made
direct by the franchise holder to diplomats and other privileged buyers
(other than Government) and for vehicles supplied to the reporting
manufacturers' executives or diverted to company fleets, including
vehicles leased to company employees. The code for single units is
SIN. All staff, company allowance/finance, pool cars, prototypes
and company fleet vehicles should be reported as SINGLE UNITS = SIN. |
| |
|
| 2.7 |
RENTAL SALES
With all members now
reporting sales to rental companies (e.g. Budget, Imperial, Avis),
sales to a rental company should be recorded under this heading.
(In supplying the input to Response Group Trendline, the regional coding
should also be supplied to facilitate the internal reporting process).
Importantly,
irrespective of whether vehicles are supplied to rental companies direct
by the manufacturer or via dealers - all sales to rental companies must be
reported and reflected under the heading "REN". All rental
sales (where possible, dealers must not report rental sales under their
dealer codes but under the OEMs dealer code. |
| |
|
| 2.8 |
EXPORT SALES
All NAAMSA members are
reporting export sales and these are reflected, as a memo item,
under "EXP" in the booklets. Members should please note that sales
into surrounding countries listed in item 2.9 below do not constitute
exports and should be treated as domestic in the sense that these appear
under the appropriate country coding. Importantly, exports of
vehicles to the following countries should be reported by using the
appropriate codes available at this link:
http://www.naamsa.co.za/guide/export.htm
|
| 2.9 |
AREA CODING
When reporting sales, the
various areas should be coded, and not described, so as to facilitate the
preparation of data capture (e.g. West Coast - WC2; Egoli - GT1 etc).
In particular,
adjoining national states should be coded as follows :
| Namibia |
SWA |
| Swaziland |
SWZ |
| Botswana |
BOT |
| Lesotho |
LES |

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION
OF RETURNS
The deadline for the
submission of sales data for the advance release fax is normally 12h00
on the 1st working day of the month
following that to which they relate and the deadline for submission of
sales data in full detail is noon on the 4th working day of the month
and all franchiseholders must please ensure that their returns are
delivered in good time to reach Response Group Trendline. When advance release data
is submitted to NAAMSA's offices on the 1st working day of the month,
sales reported should EXCLUDE EXPORTED UNITS.
If a public holiday or a
Saturday or Sunday falls within the first 4 days of the month, the returns
should please arrive by no later than noon on the first working day
thereafter. Where the returns cannot
reach Response Group Trendline by the deadline, they must be faxed to
Response Group Trendline and confirmed later by the submission of the
written return. As this procedure increases the chance of mistakes,
it should be used only in an emergency. Franchise holders situated
on the Reef are urged to submit their data via e-mail or fax. |

REPORTING OF COMMERCIAL
VEHICLES BY PERMISSIBLE MAXIMUM VEHICLE MASS
The Road Traffic
Regulations provide that the permissible maximum vehicle mass must be
reflected on the manufacturer's plate on registered buses and
commercial vehicles. As this will permit a true
comparison of competing vehicles, commercial vehicles are grouped
according to their permissible maximum vehicle mass (legal
V-rating) and not according to the manufacturer's rated gross vehicle
mass. |

NEW VEHICLE SALES
BOOKLET SUBSCRIPTIONS AND DETAILS OF ADVANCE FAX SERVICE FOR SUBSCRIBERS
Sales are compiled and
published on a monthly and annual basis for the information of and use by
NAAMSA members and subscribers. Complimentary copies are made
available to the media and other organisations which do not use them
for commercial purposes. The said statistics are normally available,
in printed form, to subscribers on or about the 15th of each calendar
month.
To meet the needs of the
motor vehicle trade and industry, NAAMSA provides an advance release
fax service which sets out the national sales of passenger cars and
commercial vehicles by respective manufacturer and model. The
advance release fax service has proved particularly useful to those
companies which require urgent details of the national sales of new
vehicles by manufacturer and model line.
Details of NAAMSA new
vehicle sales reporting service and annual subscriptions can be found
